THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Big Kohonies Restaurant Review

: For all of the big ruckus it raised when it first opened as C.O. Jones---a more subtle play on the Spanish word for a part of the male anatomy---Big Kohonies is a rather drab and surprisingly puny place. The good people of West Hartford succeeded in shielding passersby from potential offense; the only exterior sign simply reads: "Mexican Restaurant." But they couldn't shutter this irreverent purveyor of premium tequilas and specialty margaritas. The fare here is mostly as nondescript as the sign outside, serving little purpose beyond absorbing the nightly drink specials. We do like to pair a coconut margarita with the Caribbean quesadilla, a vegetarian selection made with mango, red onions, red peppers, black beans and creamy goat cheese, but after a few bites of the bland steak burrito, filled with more beans and rice than beef, we half wish that the Spam- and Slim Jim-filled trailer park burrito on the menu wasn't a joke.
