| Situated in the heart of downtown, and only a few blocks away from the bustle of Montreal's Rue Crescent, Bis Ristorante marries old-world charm with trendy chic. The restaurant is somber, with long arches reminiscent of Italian rural architecture. The décor is classic dark wood with heavy comfortable seating and clean, crisp lines. The menu is typical of Italian restaurants: a slew of pasta, risotto and veal dishes with an impressive ten-page wine list. Service is professional and well informed, with servers able to converse in Italian. The quality and presentation of the dishes are impressive. An entrée of smoked bison arranged around a deceptively simple arugula salad topped with olive oil and shaved Parmesan is a standout. The penne with Italian sausage in a rosé sauce is equally impressive, albeit less exotic. And Sicilian cannoli, a striking contrast of crunchy pastry and smooth cream, rounds out a meal beautifully. Although a little pricier than other nearby restaurants, the overall experience is well worth the higher tab. |
