Campagne has stayed true to its original form over the years to remain a simple, organic bistro---not to mention a neighborhood favorite. Its cozy, woody décor and compact, mostly French menu wisely stays affordable---a fact that proves pleasing for singles and young families. When dining here, we gravitate toward the vichyssoise, duck confit, caramelized onion strudel and trout in caper-brown butter, all of which are delightful. Another top pick is the Berkshire pork chop with spiced peach compote and sweet onions. For dessert, only the crème brûlée or pot de crème au chocolat will do. Decent wines, a nice selection of craft beers and helpful, friendly service round out the picture. The walled garden is one of the loveliest in town, and a close proximity to the Old Town School of Folk Music means that musicians occasionally stop by to play and sing---for their supper or at least the joy of performing.
