| Eateries may try their luck at vintage-looking Parisian décor but most cannot follow through with la cuisine. Bistro Citron takes its origins seriously and behind antiqued mirrors, French posters and cane chairs hides a chef who knows his bouillabaisse from his moules frites. Start with the freshest Citron salad, a heap of micro greens with tangy Roquefort, velvety beets, soft haricots verts and leeks, or a bubbly caramelized onion and goat cheese tart with a touch of Provence---tomatoes and olives. An impeccable steak frites redolent of the Left Bank is hard to resist but the pan-seared monkfish served with lobster sauce adds a touch of creamy sophistication. And if hamburgers are what fuels you, this Franco-American specimen is one of the best on the Upper West Side. Sweet tooth, go for la tarte au citron, bien sur. |
