If your priorities in a restaurant include a luxurious atmosphere and a glorious view, this is one of your best bets in the Santa Barbara area. On the patio overlooking windswept Southern California cliffs, it is easy to while away an entire afternoon at the more casual of Bacara's two dining rooms. The Bistro's Mediterranean-influenced fare is prepared with an emphasis on regionally and locally grown produce and herbs. Breakfast menu items include a grilled New York sirloin with eggs and leek hash browns, a blueberry waffle with honey-pecan butter, and a cured salmon bagel with capers, eggs and all the fixings. At lunch, there are thin-crust pizzas and sandwiches such as the "BLTA" made with apple wood-smoked bacon, avocado, arugula and heirloom tomato sourced from the resort's ranch. Though not as formal as the resort’s fine-dining establishment, the restaurant serves serious dinners including a lemon-oregano crusted rack of lamb with olive risotto, stewed artichokes, baby fennel and charred radicchio. Steaks and seafood are featured on the dinner menu as well. Be sure to order a glass of local wine to sip while watching the rise and fall of the tide.
