The Bistro Restaurant Review

: The Bistro at Bacara Resort & Spa draws its inspiration from the Italian Riviera, which is fitting as Santa Barbara is known as the “American Riviera.” Here you’ll find a more relaxed setting than at Miro, the fine dining option at the resort. The location is phenomenal, with a stone terrace overlooking the ocean. The interior, which includes a private dining room, also impresses with its beautiful ironwork and Moorish design influences. Chef de cuisine Chris Turano is dedicated and strives to deliver pleasing dishes. (He earned the position by competing on the Food Network television show “Chef Wanted with Anne Burrell.”) The Italian cuisine is accented with local ingredients, as in the wax beans that are part of the calamari fritto misto among the starters. Mains at lunch might include rigatoni with fennel sausage or pan-roasted halibut with lentils, sautéed spinach, chilies and almond butter. Salads, sandwiches and pizzas round out the menu. Dinnertime brings dishes such as cioppino and grilled lamb chops. End the meal with tiramisu or lemon blueberry cheesecake. California wineries are prominent on the wine list, which also includes a few selections of barreled wine on tap. There are also several bottled beers plus classic cocktails. In addition, The Bistro produces the food for the pools, cabanas and room service, and the restaurant has become a weekend destination for its brunch buffet.
