Dim lights and a mellow jazz soundtrack help boost this tiny, stylish neighborhood café up the romance scale. We’d happily hold hands with our honey across an antique table set with white linen and flowers, the glow of candlelight warming the yellow walls. When dining solo, we are inclined to instead head for the five-seat bar that edges the open kitchen to indulge in crabcakes, a salad and a glass of wine. Seafood is one of the strengths of the brief, seasonal à la carte menu. We like the lusty cioppino, a tomato-rich broth crammed with mussels, clams, shrimp and halibut, but we’re also fond of Calvados-glazed pork chops and filet mignon in a potent red wine and meat stock reduction studded with mushroom and onion. The simple dessert list might include a crème caramel, pot de crème or a fruit torte. Prices on the short wine list are generally under $40. Service is efficient and affable.
