Black + Blue Restaurant Review: Black + Blue is a classic Chicago-style steakhouse redesigned in a contemporary and vibrant mode with just a hint of upscale 70s "Playboy Mansion vibe." With the spotlight on a glass, walk-in meat locker, plus Himalayan pink rock salt blocks, this spot makes no bones about its culinary leanings. There are two dining levels, on the main floor and up a flight towards the soaring ceiling. The second level offers quieter tables and booth seating, but you’ll catch the 70s and 80s music soundtrack from anywhere in the room. Menu-wise, P.E.I. Blue Ribbon steaks from cattle raised on the island province's lush grass pastures provide some of Canada’s highest grade A meat. A variety of classic sides are available, ranging from Lyonnaise potatoes and creamed spinach to roasted Brussels sprouts. The loaded baked potato takes the easy route, placing everything anyone ever liked onto one plate and baking it. Something that’s not do-it-yourself, though, is the Caesar salad, served tableside. Begin with oysters Rockefeller and finish with bananas Foster, another tableside performance that tastes better than it looks on the plate. Classic cocktails are almost required, or match some obscure Sicilian wine with your steak. A sizable selection of large format red wines is a guaranteed showstopper. The Roof, serviced by a glass-walled private elevator and open year-round, has its own kitchen anchored by a state-of-the art charcoal grill oven that turns out nicely cooked steaks, seafood and chicken.
