The Black Cat has struggled for several years with its American brasserie menu that tried to incorporate Fisherman’s Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown and the Barbary Coast under one roof. Look for very traditional French food like steak frites, foie gras, homey country-style chicken and more. We wish we could say the new concept is doing better, but it still needs work. The downstairs lounge, however, is dark and sexy-the perfect setting for a martini while grooving to cool live jazz.
