Blackbirds' Grille in Sayville has everything you could ask of an American restaurant: a vibrant atmosphere, frequent live music, generous portions, a good happy hour and an extensive menu. While you'll find lots of classic choices, from crab cakes to a burger and a grilled chicken sandwich, there's also a strong leaning towards the Cajun and Creole cuisine of Louisiana. Traditionalists may be disappointed, as these dishes have a very Northern feel, but everything is full of flavor, and given the numerous options, very few will go home let down. To start, stick to local seafood with the raw bar selections or a classic appetizer like baked clams. Mains include pasta fra diavolo and the popular full rack of baby-back ribs slathered in house-made barbecue sauce. Be sure to try one of the Southern cocktails from the bar, like the Monsoon with three kinds of rum and tropical juice.
