THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Blossoming Lotus Restaurant Review: A spacious, high-ceilinged dining room is simply and tastefully furnished in a subdued East Asian style, creating a soothing effect. The menu is entirely devoid of animal products. But even the most die-hard carnivore won't miss meat after enjoying one of the thoroughly interesting meals made from recipes created by executive chef Mark Reinfeld, who has a flair for complex sauces that take kale, purple sweet potatoes, breadfruit, tofu and seitan to savory heights. The food doesn't try to mimic meat-based cuisine, but breaks entirely new ground. The menu also includes live food choices and desserts that bear little resemblance to health food. Organic beers and wines are sold, and patrons are encouraged to linger and enjoy live entertainment. Take-out is also available, using, of course, plant-based cutlery and packaging that will break down in a compost pile. This heartfelt dedication to eco-friendly practices helped the Blossoming Lotus become the only restaurant in Hawaii to achieve national Green Certification; it’s also kosher.
