BLT Steak Restaurant Review: The space is expansive --- more than 300 seats --- and the views are breathtaking, with a dramatic fire pit and live cacti framing Camelback Mountain. And some would say that the chef’s pedigree is paparazzi-worthy. BLT, or Bistro Laurent Tourondel, is the personal stamp of chef and restaurateur Laurent Tourondel. It’s true that the menu is similar to other BLT locations in his national empire, but fortunately, the food merits the hype --- at least in a modern American steakhouse kind of way. And this branch stands out for its weekly blackboard specials trumpeting Southwestern flavors mingling with fresh herbs from Camelback Inn's on-site organic garden. The star, of course, is the steak, either Prime grade or certified Black Angus, broiled at 1,700 degrees and finished with herb butter. Some of the best bites are the Gruyère popovers tucked into the complimentary bread basket; it’s hard to eat just one. Staff is well-versed with wine pairings, and will gladly help you explore some robust bottlings to complement that juicy steak.
