Blush Restaurant & Lounge Restaurant Review: Part restaurant, part upscale lounge, Blush offers indoor and outdoor seating, both with polished wood, exposed brick and a retro look. The downtown location marks the heart of Santa Barbara’s nightlife district, and the hipster bait is set with a sultry vibe, specialty cocktails and trendy dishes such as lobster mac ‘n’ cheese and braised lamb shank. Though there is a striking imbalance between fine dining restaurant and noisy bar, each of the components works on its own level. The Latin flavors of the Jamaican jerk chicken with sweet potato fries topped with a mango pepper chutney, then capped with lemon-dressed arugula, pull no punches. At lunchtime, healthy wraps of curried chicken salad in a spinach tortilla, or the football-size lobster roll, are nice fare for the popular outdoor patio. Also on the lunch menu are salads ranging from a simple iceberg wedge to grilled salmon with quinoa, tomatoes, arugula, red onion, avocado and a sherry vinaigrette. While the noise level may put a damper on the dinner experience, late-night bites like the chorizo-filled piquillo poppers with its chipotle sauce, and the ahi tartare with ponzu sauce, hit the spot and will keep you running for hours.
