THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bob Kinkead's Colvin Run Tavern Restaurant Review:

Good restaurants should insulate patrons from the outside world with attentive service, pleasing décor and, of course, fabulous food. DC's famed Bob Kinkead has opened a Virginia restaurant that scores high in all three categories. The waitstaff lavishes attention on each table, not even letting water glasses go empty. The décor reflects four different Eastern coastal areas with four different settings, united by a sense of rugged country atmosphere that is both comforting and sophisticated. And the food is Kinkead at his most inventive. Since he specializes in elegant seafood preparations, you won't go wrong selecting something such as his Portuguese-style, bacon-wrapped monkfish, served as a minimalist stew with several Little Neck clams---we loved this, for it is spiced with crumbles of Portuguese sausage and a piping of red pepper cream. If your taste runs to the more traditional, you'll be pleased with the 1 3/4 pound roasted lobster served with a macaroni gratin. And if you know about Kinkead's famous crab cakes, set your sights on lunching here, the only time when these are on the menu. You'll find game and meat entrées, too, including a fancy peppered prime steak. If you can't squeeze in a three-course meal, plan ahead for either one of the appetizers---we vote for the escarole soup with a heavenly beef stock---or for one of the desserts, several of which (such as the apple tarte Tatin) must be preordered at the beginning of the meal. Trouble is, the menu changes regularly and some of the dishes appear today and are gone tomorrow. This assures that you'll return often to see what Kinkead is up to next.
