THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bolero Bar & Grill Restaurant Review:

Cutting-edge Latin A-listers meet truly tasty Nuevo Latino fare at this upscale gathering spot with a supper-club atmosphere. Adorned with nostalgic flair from Havana’s heyday, Bolero is a harbor of hip. Unfortunately, the superb music, décor and cuisine clash with the nonchalant, snobbish attitude of the Bolero staff that we’ve noticed. The food, though, can help to keep your mind off that. Guava-chipotle barbecued shrimp and codfish fritters with spicy tomato-cilantro sauce are appealing appetizers. The seafood entrées are particularly special, hearty adaptations from Cuba and beyond as into light and clean contemporary cuisine like the honey-soy seared salmon with baby bok choy. Also a highlight: the rack of lamb with malanga (a root vegetable)-calabaza (pumpkin) mash. At first glance, Bolero comes off more as a velvet-roped nightspot than a restaurant, due in part to its Washington Avenue location (and the conspicuous bouncer guarding the door) smack dab in the middle of tacky nightclub row. One plus for those with the late-night munchies: a bar menu is available from 12 a.m. to 5.a.m.
