Hailing from Scottsdale, Ariz., this Roka Akor sib specializes in low-cal Indian fare that’s big on flavor. Sound like an oxymoron? Moist, crispy lentil cakes with sweet-tangy sauce and meaty, seared eggplant drizzled with tamarind reduction say otherwise. The samosas are light, non-greasy and pleasantly spicy. Ditto the grilled chicken tikka and airy pappadum with sauces that vary in heat. Does the food taste waist-friendly? Yes, but the enjoyability factor also is high. Of note, too, is the affordable boutique wine list with many bottles under $25. Feel like dessert? There’s warm carrot halwa and rice pudding.
