| Here’s another case of style triumphing over substance; Bombay Talkie is gorgeous, but the food fails to live up to the innovative décor. The interior is something of a monument to the films of Bollywood; the talkies in question play on a flat-screen above the bar, and black leather booths take up much of the dining room. Between the vibrant colors and large Bollywood-inspired mural on the wall, it’s clear that, just like in the movies, looks matter most of all. The food focuses on subtly tweaked Indian favorites. Lamb meatballs are served with a touch of mustard; a “beggar’s purse” comes filled with potatoes and chickpeas; and tandoori mahi mahi replaces the usual sizzling platter of chicken. |
