BOSTON RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

Chef Brian Poe of Poe's Kitchen at the Rattlesnake Bar & Grill fame has embarked on his latest venture, The Tip Tap Room, located just outside Government Center. The small casual spot features all things tips (think steak, lamb, turkey, chicken, tofu and swordfish) and taps (from Nantucket's own Cisco Brewery to the West Coast's Green Flash). If you're daring, check out the daily game selection where you can nosh on kangaroo, antelope or wild boar. Lunch & Dinner daily. The Tip Tap Room, 138 Cambridge St., Boston, MA 02114, 857-350-3344.

The Oak Bar, the classic steakhouse located in The Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel, has just received a facelift and a new name, transforming into Oak Long Bar & Kitchen. Gone are the formalities of its former namesake and now the restaurant features shared plates, flatbreads and charcuterie boards. You can still find some great beef offerings, just in a different more casual form --- think skirt steak salads, grass fed burgers and a "bone-out" ribeye. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner daily, Brunch Sun. Oak Long Bar & Kitchen, 138 St. James Ave., Boston, MA 02116, 617-585-7222.

Korean fried chicken chain BonChon Chicken has opened a second location in the Boston area, this one in Cambridge's Harvard square. The menu is similar to the branch in Allston, so expect drummies, chicken strips and wings flavored with their signature soy garlic sauce. BonChon Chicken, 57 JF Kennedy St., Cambridge, MA 02138, 617-868-0981.
