BOSTON RESTAURANT NEWS

Openings

JM Curley pays homage to the city's former four-term mayor with a two-level space that serves up everything from a pastrami smoked salmon salad to a porterhouse pork chop with applesauce. Sandwiches feature pulled pork, mortadella and roasted turkey while entrees steer toward the likes of a marinated hanger steak, fried chicken plate and death row burger with pulled pork. Lunch & Dinner daily. JM Curley, 21 Temple Pl., Boston, MA 02111, 617-338-5333.

Located underneath the Hotel Commonwealth in the former Foundation Lounge space, which has been given a facelift, The Hawthorne focuses on cask spirits. You will still find beer and wine drinkers here as they nosh on casual bites like a Reuben sandwich with barrel-aged sauerkraut, but it's the spirits list that is the draw. Dinner nightly. The Hawthorne, 500 A Commonwealth Ave., Boston, MA 02215, 617-532-9150.

The folks behind Petit Robert Central, Blue Inc., McGreevy's 3rd Base Saloon, Whiskey Republic and Lola's Tequila Bar & Cantina have opened Julep Bar, an upscale lounge located in the Financial District in the space formerly occupied by Revolution Rock Bar. The light menu here satisfies late night cravings with a focus on shared plates like house made buffalo duck drumettes with Roquefort cheese, Creole fried calamari with Bloody Mary sauce, spicy tuna tartare tacos, foie gras gravy and cheese fries. Dinner Tues.-Sat. Julep Bar, 200 High St., Boston, MA 02110, 617-261-4200.
