After a long delay, Todd English's Olives reopened with an expanded bar and renovated restaurant following a fire that forced the restaurant to close. Located in City Square, Olives has a new focus on shared plates and tapas. Olives, 10 City Sq., Charlestown, MA 02129, 617-242-1999.
Rosa Mexicano, which has locations in New York, Los Angeles and other cities, is opening at the The menu features upscale Mexican dishes including its famous guacamole en Molcajete made tableside, ceviches, carne asada tacos on homemade corn tortillas, and crispy marinated pork shank with chipotle-creamed spinach and red bean-chorizo chili. The Café at Taj Boston Introduces New Menus and New England Raw Bar
The Café has introduced new breakfast, lunch and dinner menus, as well as a weekend brunch service. Executive chef Michael Mandato focuses on New England classics, plus regional Indian specialties. There's a new raw bar and nightly "From the Grill" Angus beef specials (think grilled rack of lamb with aged sherry jus) and fresh catch dishes such as baked cracker crusted cod. James Beard Foundation Honors Boston Restaurants
Boston was represented in the winner's circle at this year's James Beard Foundation Awards. "Top Desserts" Event at the Mandarin Oriental
Boston magazine is hosting "Top Desserts" on May 24 at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston where you can sample of the city's top chefs' sweet confections. (Some chefs include Tiffani Faison of Sweet Cheeks, Maura Kilpatrick of Oleana and Sofra as well as David Nevins of Nix's Mate). A portion of the proceeds from the delicious dining event will benefit the Greater Boston Food Bank. Matt Spencer has been appointed executive chef at The Brahmin American Cuisine & Cocktails located in the Back Bay. The native Bostonian has worked alongside Ken Oringer of Clio and in the kitchen at Sonsie on Newbury Street. He has introduced a menu at The Brahmin that features small dishes such as shisito peppers (flash fried and sprinkled with sea salt), short rib grilled cheese bites and buffalo chicken meatballs.
