Botana (a little bite) is an apt name for this modest gem. Every little bite is filled with big flavor; each sauce and salsa is more complex and distinctive than the last. Highlights include a vegetarian’s dream tamale, with black beans, roasted chilies and mixed vegetables, and fish tacos of cornmeal-coated, fried mahi mahi paired with a crispy shredded-cabbage salad. One drink, agua fresca de sandia, is the essence of ripe watermelon. Bunuelos (crispy, cinnamon-sugared tortilla strips) provide a sweet ending.
