Taking the lead from its long-successful sibling the Harrison, Braeburn focuses on cuisine that’s comfortably American and farm fresh. The setting feels rustic, with paintings of country scenes and a cozy wood-paneled room. Chef Brian Bistrong’s menu is simple with a compact selection of choices. Hors d’oeuvres precede appetizers and main courses. A bite of ham and cheese and corned beef of short rib on toast are fun munchies to kick off the meal. Appetizers such as the day boat sea scallop or roasted beet salad with apples, walnuts and goat cheese are fresh and not overdressed. In addition to entrée staples like Pennsylvania chicken with sautéed chicken livers in a base of sherry vinaigrette, or Long Island duck with turnips and wheat berries, a rotating selection of specials adds twists on old favorites such as a grilled version of short ribs. Desserts are “apple pie” all the way, too. Try the Braeburn apple and rhubarb cobbler---you’ll immediately understand why the restaurant was named for this apple---or the Southern banana pudding that will recall childhood treats.
