THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bravo! Ristorante Restaurant Review:
This big, beautiful dining room has high ceilings, white tablecloths and crystal chandeliers that look like up-side-down wedding cakes. The chairs are large and comfortable; the tables are spaced far enough apart to allow privacy for business meetings or intimate dinner conversation. Arched, floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the busy 16th Street Mall with its hurrying businesspeople and loitering characters. Waitpersons seem to be hired more for their singing ability than for their restaurant experience---but what they lack in experience, they make up in enthusiasm. In addition, they joyfully burst into song without any apparent provocation, filling the room with Puccini and Verdi arias, sung expertly and with feeling. Start your dining with creamy onion soup, roasted clams in red sauce, calamari fritti, dry-aged Angus carpaccio or a large antipasto platter, which can be a meal in itself. Beautifully prepared pastas are a specialty---capellini with seafood, penne with basil marinated chicken, four-cheese ravioli with grilled artichoke hearts and asparagus, and, of course, the traditional spaghetti in a light tomato-basil sauce. The pizzas are crusty and loaded with toppings---everything from oven-roasted roma tomatoes and smoked provolone cheese, to portobello mushrooms and pancetta. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced.
