THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bresca Restaurant Review: Chef Krista Kern Desjarlais' intimate restaurant is suffused with New England charm. Her contemporary cuisine with nods to Italy includes quark spätzle with caramelized onion, apple and Gruyère, light and earthy, and local honeycomb paired with a sharp Pecorino Romano or chorizo and Gorgonzola-stuffed dates. Share fresh local crab pasta with brown butter and micro sorrel; honey-glazed duck breast comes with elegant and exotic Roman trading spices and Chianti-poached nectarines; and a lamb rib chop shines with sweet roasted beets and petite pomme de terre potatoes. Desjarlais was originally a pastry chef and all the sweets are seasonal, a mix of fruit and cream as in a buttermilk panna cotta with bits of pickled stone fruit. The simple and tastefully decorated dining room, though dark, showcases the cuisine. That’s also the case with the wine list, with its obscure Italian bottles the staff deftly describe.
