: This rapidly expanding chain of stylish self-service cafés is mostly clustered in busy, urban commercial areas. Hungry office-workers on their lunch hours are lured by well-stocked, refrigerated cases of well-constructed sandwiches and lively salads, as well as hot dishes, such as soups and panini sandwiches. Most of the food is prepared daily in a central commissary, where cooks creatively combine fresh, quality ingredients. We’ve seldom been disappointed with choices such as albacore tuna with white beans, Kalamata olives, red pepper and greens on a bolo roll or spicy curried couscous with red onion, zucchini, red pepper and chick peas. If you know you’ll be stuck at a conference table through mealtime, call for delivery of box lunches. Desperate for dinner? The Grand Café in University Village is the only location so far venturing from ready-to-eat to ready-to-heat. The seasonal menu features a broad assortment of side-dish options along with main courses like pasta, chicken stew and stuffed flank steak, which you can enjoy in the café or take home to a hungry family. Each café offers numerous low-fat alternatives, unfortunately the smell of cookies fresh from the oven usually undermines our good intentions.
