“Warm Beer, Lousy Food” is the tongue-in-cheek motto of this authentic British pub located on a sleepy stretch of Colorado Boulevard. It is routinely passed over even by locals, but this undiscovered eatery serves some of the best traditional pub favorites in the area. A bar packed with animated regulars occupies one side of the restaurant, while linen-topped tables fill a dining room with dark wood wainscoting and photos of London. The menu is predictable, dominated by classic pub dishes like bangers 'n’ mash and shepherd’s pie. The Scotch egg is a filling, tasty appetizer, followed by deep-fried Icelandic cod with a remarkably delicate beer batter, served with light, almost puffy “chips.” Pair it with a glass of Guinness, Old Speckled Hen or Boddingtons, and you’ll momentarily feel like you’re on the other side of the pond. Another good dish is the Cornish pastie (nicely seasoned ground beef in a flaky pastry turnover), and samosas and chicken curry reflect the affection many Brits have for Indian cuisine. Finish with nicely crusted custard pie.
