| Burlingame’s Broadway Grill has a big-city sophistication about it---the 4,100-square-foot restaurant is housed in an historic 1923 building that was originally a Bank of America. The name references the theater district of New York---even the menu pays tribute to Broadway, with dishes named after shows (“King and I” clams), but lest you think the Grill is all gimmick, the food is actually quite good, in particular the “Double Cooked Prime Rib of the Stars,” which lives up to its name. Aged Angus beef is slow-roasted and then grilled, creating a charred, crisp outer coating and a smoky, robust essence akin to a barbecued steak. It’s served with traditional au jus and creamed horseradish. It is also offered cooked traditionally---slow-roasted without a turn on the wood-fired grill. The French dip sandwich is first-rate. Lighter fare includes a seared-salmon salad and pan-seared sea scallops. Don’t miss the Peter Pan prawns---big shrimp grilled in a sweet, spicy sauce. There’s also a good kids’ menu. Nightly entertainment ranges from Motown Mondays to murder mystery dinners. With friendly service and a wide-ranging menu, Broadway Grill is fine for a business meeting or a family gathering. |
