The Broken Shaker Restaurant Review: From local mixologists Gabriel Orta and Elad Zvi of Bar Lab, The Broken Shaker, which started as a pop-up, is now a permanent only-in-Miami mostly outdoor cocktail/tapas bar located on the grounds of Freehand Miami, a renovated Art Deco boutique hostel. The walled “baryard” has a bocce court, pool, ping pong tables, lounge chairs, hammocks and more. Most important, it’s packed with edible gardens where herbs and produce grow for weekly-changing seasonal cocktails like the Florida Back Alley (vodka, smoked ancho chiles, tangerines, homemade bitters and herbs). Enjoy tapas such as empanadas with exotic international flavors (sweet plantain and pork; pear and Brie); East Indian-spiced chicken skewers; vegetable makis; house-made pickled local vegetables; and hummus, spicy avocado and curry dips with rustic bread. You'll have to satisfy your sweet tooth with one of the fruit-forward cocktails as there are no desserts on the menu.
