Regulars know to bring an appetite to this friendly Southern Italian eatery (Buca di Beppo translates as Big Joe's Basement). Traipse through the kitchen to your table in one of the cozy dining rooms, where the walls and every available space are covered in Italian photos and memorabilia, from kitschy ceramic statues to photos of Frank Sinatra and Sophia Loren. Everything used to be family-size, but now they have added “Buca Mio,” single servings of Buca favorites if you aren’t into sharing. But trust us, sharing is encouraged. The menu is on the wall, and though most entrées are in the $15-$20 range, you can put together an inexpensive meal for four with just one appetizer, one salad and an entrée. Try the chicken with lemon and capers, sided with garlic mashed potatoes. Most of the sauces are red and you have a choice of gnocchi, ravioli, spaghetti, linguine, penne, fettuccine and tortellini. Wine is exclusively Italian; for dessert, the Dolce Platter has tastes of four finales (including tiramisu) for sharing. Mangia!
