In the space that once housed the raucous Sunburnt Calf is this Aussie-accented bistro that is decidedly tamer. The narrow bar area gives way to an elegant atrium-topped dining room, surrounded by plush banquette seating. The menu is sprinkled with oh-so Aussie ingredients like kangaroo meat and barramundi, and there’s plenty to enjoy. Start with the lamb crepinette, a cricket-ball-size piece of intensely tender and flavorful lamb meat wrapped in the encasing of a lamb stomach; or the foie gras paired with seared scallops. Mains range from gnocchi intermingled with mushrooms to seared duck breast wading in a farro risotto, giving the dish an appealing complexity. Desserts include a very good take on Pavlova. The wine list, naturally, skews Australian. After a meal, wander upstairs to the speakeasy-like Manhattan Cricket Club for a cocktail.
