Butlers Wharf Chop House Restaurant Review

: Of all the restaurants in the Gastrodome along this stretch of the river, the Chop House is the most informal, with plain wooden tables adding to the relaxed feel. The theme is solidly British, with all the best this island has to offer given due care and consideration. The view of Tower Bridge is as splendid as the next door Le Pont de la Tour, yet here you can have breakfast or a snack at the bar, have a substantial but quick one-course meal, or go the whole hog, so to speak, and spend hours over several courses. The kitchen uses all the right ingredients: smoked salmon from Scotland, crab from Devon, wild rabbit and ham hock for starters. Mains include the likes of grilled Cornish red mullet with braised fennel, Gloucestershire pork loin, and roast beef with Yorkshire pudding. Desserts go down the bread and butter pudding and apple and blackberry crumble route. The wine list has a rather British tone to it, with a better than average selection of notable English wines, and in keeping with the theme, claret is particularly strong. Service is slick and professional. Set 2-course lunch £25, 3 courses £27.50.
