THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Butterfly Embarcadero Restaurant Review

: A concrete façade belies this spectacular room, with soaring wood ceilings that canopy above columns, a sea of tables and a huge lapis blue-backed bar. Expansive windows provide a dramatic view onto the sparkling bay. Some nights a DJ keeps the room pulsing, other evenings the view is a backdrop for a lively jazz band. The atmosphere takes its cue from the music, creating a boisterous, high-energy effect that makes the entire restaurant feel more like one big bar. Servers, more jovial than formal, welcome diners with a long list of specialty cocktails and wines. An eclectic menu of small plates includes tuna poke, duck confit spring rolls, "big Buddha" chicken wings with pickled daikon and Maytag blue cheese, and salt-and-pepper calamari. Butter lettuce cups are served with a mound of shredded pork and toasted cashew nuts, with a sweet plum dipping sauce. Fried whole fish may take some courage to order, but it's worth it. Desserts include warm chocolate cake and classic crème brûlée.
