A change of ownership has transformed a simple utilitarian space into a casual dining room with murals and white linen-topped tables, where a friendly family handles both the cooking and service. The first-rate Armenian cuisine includes nicely seasoned kebabs of lamb, chicken and beef grilled over an open flame. Served with hummus, tabbouleh salad, pita bread and seasoned rice, the kebab plates make for satisfying dinners. Among the many recommended starters are muhammara (an addictive spread made from walnuts, bread crumbs, pomegranate, hot chilies and other spices), falafel and some of the best hummus in L.A. If you’re in a hurry for take-out, call ahead---preparation can be sluggish.
