| Café 222 is a colorful, inviting space with a menu full of tasty food with playful names like Wakey Wakey, Eggs and Bakey or Green Eggs and Spam. We like to take out-of-town guests and local friends here for the famous pumpkin waffles, tamales and eggs, homemade corned beef hash, or peanut butter-and-banana-stuffed french toast. Favorites for lunch are the lime-and-ginger-soaked chicken on toasted sourdough, the grilled turkey with pesto on focaccia and the meatloaf sandwich. Owner Terryl Gavre's attitude is infectious; how can you not love a place that welcomes dogs, kids and has chandeliers made out of coffee cups and spoons? Lest you think she is all fun and games, know that Gavre is a serious foodie, a writer, and also something of a celebrity on the local scene. This is a woman who knows her food, yet hasn't gone all stuffy. |
