| In a town full of Tex-Mex restaurants, this pink palace has outlived better and worse competitors. The colorful walls and clunky Mexican furnishings add to its charm; but the tropical outdoor patios, as well as the climate-controlled sunrooms, are what bring people back. Upstairs, on the bar deck, things are really happening. The food can be hit-or-miss, but always a hit is the Avocado Adobe, featuring a deep-fried avocado stuffed with cheese and stewed chicken and drowned in ranchero sauce; we recommend the sauce on the side. Those nixing the fat grams can feast on lighter menu items like shrimp and taco salads, chalupas and tacos. From the nachos to the rice-and-beans sides, this is standard fare. But there’s one exception: Café Adobe turns out a good enchilada, especially the sour cream-chicken version. That's not on the lunch menu, but decent cheese enchiladas, as well as a variety of other dishes, can be found at bargain prices. Not to mention the happy hour-priced margaritas from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. |
