Discover the gem of downtown dining by venturing slightly off the beaten track to Café Cerise. It is retro sleek, with dark wood, high ceilings and an old-fashioned bar at the top of a sweeping staircase. Ask for an upstairs side balcony table or a spacious booth up front for the best people-watching; or cozy up in a back corner table for a more romantic setting. Owner and executive chef Jason Siebert will take you on a culinary adventure. His passion is evident in every dish; the combinations are well-balanced, the high-quality ingredients highlighted subtly. We like to start with the house-smoked oysters, bold and adventurous. Also on the far side are roasted bone marrow with pesto and grated citron; and venison carpaccio with ricotta salata and balsamic onions. Those with more traditional palates shouldn't despair, for the osso buco, roasted monkfish and duck confit are prepared with equal dedication. The roasted banana with vanilla bean ice cream tops our dessert list, but Siebert's ever-changing array of rich chocolate confections is also tempting.
