Despite all the Italian restaurants New Orleans enjoys, Café DiBlasi adds a singular take on rich, flavorful pastas, meats and savory sauces. Some dishes incorporate more local flavors, such as the flaky crab cakes that are lightly crusted and topped with shrimp and a Creole cream sauce. Marsala and porcini mushrooms flatter fork-tender tournedos. And both the house's signature pan-fried veal scallop and the deep-fried redfish come to the table in a nicely balanced lemon-cream sauce studded with crab bits. We also suggest the rosemary chicken and the black olive and artichoke bread. All of the above are nicely complemented by a selection of Italian wines. Amaretto spumoni cheesecake is a fine ending to a meal, but house-made cannoli may vie for your attention.
