| In New Orleans, some of the best Italian restaurants are situated in the simplest surroundings. Café DiBlasi’s plain ambience belies its rich, flavorful Italian pastas, meats and savory sauces. The rich tomato and cream sauces are flavorful, and the staff has an easy familiarity. All the predictable veal, pasta and seafood favorites are on the menu. Flaky crab cakes are lightly crusted, topped with shrimp and a Creole cream sauce. Marsala and porcini mushrooms flatter fork-tender tournedos. And both the house's signature pan-fried veal scallop and the deep-fried redfish come to the table in a nicely balanced lemon-cream sauce studded with crab bits. |
