THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cafe Matou Restaurant Review:
This is one intimate, romantic restaurant---not to mention an ambitious one. While the culinary style may be bourgeois, the appeal is definitely tout le monde---enjoyable for everyone. Owner-chef Charles Socher---who crafts a super-seasonal menu using local purveyors---has a handle on this place. His assiette de charcuterie is a wonderful assortment of pâtés. The fromage de chèvre (baked goat cheese) is luscious; the lamb shank soul-warming; and the pain chocolat (bread pudding) a winner. Other finds might include wild sturgeon and dry-pack scallops with Chablis-basil cream sauce, brick chicken paillard or bouillabaisse. We so enjoy the subtle, casual ambience---brick walls, hardwood floors, high ceilings---and the professional service.
