Fans of Mélisse who don't live near Santa Monica are rejoicing in the opening of Café Mélisse in Valencia Town Center, Santa Clarita Valley. Chef Josiah Citrin and executive chef Mario Perez oversee the kitchen and have developed the menu, which focuses on French and American bistro foods. Start with a poached asparagus appetizer with tomato and sherry mustard vinaigrette, or the salad Lyonnaise with endive, smoked bacon, and soft-boiled egg in a sherry vinaigrette. Main courses include crispy salmon with baby vegetables and braised lamb shank with spring vegetable risotto and a red wine lamb jus. Selections for the young gourmet are also available, including spaghetti and meatballs and macaroni and cheese. A Gourmet-To-Go take-out menu is available for those who want the Mélisse experience at home.
