Cafe Portofino Restaurant Review: Few restaurants on Kauai offer both a striking view and good food, and Café Portofino is among them. Owner Giuseppe Avocadi hails from northern Italy, and his roots are evident in a lengthy menu that includes cannelloni filled with chicken, mushrooms and spinach; fettuccine with shrimp and mushrooms; three variations on veal scaloppine; chicken cacciatore; and minestrone. Fresh island fish specials are prepared daily, and the ahi carpaccio is a signature dish. A traditional tiramisu is a fine finale to a meal characterized by discreet service and competent cooking, and the views of Kalapaki Bay and the Haupu mountains are sweet icing on an otherwise delectable cake.
