| The second location of a hot and hip Latino eatery (the first is located in Alexandria), this 14th Street destination with its vibrantly painted walls underscores the tropical flavor of the menu. Billed as Nuevo Latino, the cuisine spins such classics as nachos, alcapurrías and arepas as unusual forays into the Hispanic kitchen. The best bets here are the brimming bowl of the special lime-chicken soup, an order of the arepitas topped with shredded pork and guacamole, and frita Cubana, apparently a favorite hamburger in Miami. Don’t expect a McD’s type sandwich: this comes on a crumbly bun with crunchy shoestring potatoes and mozzarella cheese. For bigger appetites (or in the evening), check out the nueva ropa vieja (the Cuban classic of shredded flank steak served in a savory sauce) or the pollo Brasilero, a marinated chicken breast stuffed with all sorts of goodies. Don’t skip the tres leches cake for dessert---one of the best in town. |
