Cafe Society Restaurant Review: Executive chef Cullen Kent’s French training meets his American roots on Café Society’s globally inspired menu. A French classic, fricassée of escargots, is served with Spanish chorizo, while breast of chicken Gorgonzola gets paired up with roasted peppers and penne. Some menu items, like Tennessee duck pastrami with field pea hummus, are as Southern as they come. And, of course, there are French standards: French onion soup and seafood bisque. Vegetarians will be pleased with the portobello napoleon stuffed with farmer’s cheese, spinach and roasted peppers. Crème brûlée and lemon cheesecake beignets are among desserts. Despite the gourmet offerings, Café Society has a casual vibe, and the wine list, which lists vintages, offers plenty of good choices, including a substantial number of half bottles. French and American selections rule. |
