Caffe Amante Restaurant Review

: Caffè Amante serves vintage continental cuisine --- especially Italian --- in the heart of the Cultural District. The bar buzzes with the after-work crowd. The menu is steadfast, with occasional minor changes: flatbreads are no longer a lunch staple, and pastas rotate --- look for shrimp and artichoke linguine. Bargains can be had through the three-course meal offerings ($21.95). Also, as of yore, entrée specials come with a side salad or cup of soup plus a choice of pasta, risotto or green beans. Favorite dishes include broiled breaded "Virginia Spots" (a small fish of the Chesapeake Bay) and rack of lamb. For dessert, there's tiramisu or a pecan martini topped with chocolate, caramel or raspberry sauce. The wine list is eclectic.

My husband and I ate here a few months ago. It is a nice place. It does lack atmosphere, but for the quality of food, it is reasonably priced with a nice variety. The food is upscale, not consisting of spaghetti and meatballs and lasagna. I do recommend this place because it is often not crowded on nights that you can't find anywhere else to eat--i.e., if there are lots of shows downtown, combined w/ one or more sporting events. It is quiet, and the service is decent. In addition, if you're going to a show, you can leave your car parked in the underground parking garage free, as the restaurant will validate your ticket. You have to ask the waitress. It's a good deal and, I think, as good as some more popular spots.
