This casual North Beach spot is insanely tiny---the upstairs room has a ceiling so low that the tallest in your group may have to scrunch down while walking to the table---but the food and the hospitality are as big and boisterous as the best Italian host. Simple dishes like Gorgonzola-coated gnocchi, seafood-topped spaghetti and soul-satisfying polenta are reminiscent of dishes found in the urban trattorias of Northern Italy. There is something for everyone on the huge wine list, but a simple glass of Chianti for less than $5 is more fitting to the experience of this family-run pasta house.
