California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant Review: The list of two-dozen crispy-thin pizzas at this California-based chain includes all the standards, but there are also inventive versions like wild mushroom, mango tandoori chicken and B.L.T. --- the latter complete with mayonnaise. Our favorites? The roasted garlic chicken, with its memorable garlic-shallot butter, and the barbecued chicken, which is --- far and away --- the most popular of the pies. (You also can design your own.) If you can tear yourself away from the pizzas --- it’s unlikely --- try one of the pastas; we recommend the Thai linguine with spicy peanut-ginger sauce. Another Asian option, the crisp Chinese chicken salad, is satisfying as well. However, salad portions are large; keep in mind that you can get a half-order. Soups, appetizers and sandwiches made with hearth-baked focaccia round out the menu. The place even serves carnitas and fish tacos. Whatever you settle on, do get the red velvet cake for dessert.
