| The stretch of Sand Lake Road near busy International Drive offers diverse cuisine, and Cantina Laredo adds to the mix with upscale Mexican---the spacious restaurant is tucked back off the road, so it’s easy to miss. But if you’re seeking a decent margarita or guacamole made fresh at the table (purists won’t love the tomatoes, so ask them to nix), Cantina Laredo is a good recommendation. The menu is pricey, but you’re paying for good service and fresh ingredients, not gargantuan burritos. There are tacos, enchiladas and an addictive roasted tomatillo salsa served with complimentary chips, but you can stretch your idea of Mexican with creations such as shrimp stuffed with Oaxaca cheese and jalapeños and wrapped in bacon, or the sliced filet mignon with garlicky chimichurri sauce. Fresh fish always is on the menu. Sunday brunch has a Mexican twist, with migas huevos (scrambled eggs with sautéed tortillas) and a chicken fajita omelet. Sweets include flan, a brownie with Mexican brandy butter and mango tres leches. There’s a full bar with an expansive selection of tequilas. |
