CAPITALE IS OPEN FOR PRIVATE EVENTS ONLY. Housed in a former Stanford White-designed bank, opulent Capitale is the latest hot party space. The landmark building includes a grand ballroom and a 150-seat restaurant. Don't let the club kids scare you off: Chef Franklin Becker, from Local, cooks contemporary American food that stands up to its surroundings. From a pan-seared Kobe beef appetizer to steamed black sea bass swimming in a nage of shiitake and saké, the dishes are accomplished and pricey. Pastry chef John Lee, who has worked at AZ, La Grenouille and Lutèce, has fun with dessert: his chocolate soufflé comes with s'mores and an egg cream.
