| Billing itself as the first brewpub in the nation’s capital since Prohibition, Capitol City Brewing Co. is a welcoming place. It’s large and spacious, with room for diners who don’t want to watch the sports channels that are always on at the central bar. As soon as you sit down at one of the roomy booths, freshly made, warm, salted pretzels are brought to the table; move on to bratwurst, crab cakes, fish ‘n’ chips or, perhaps, the homemade meatloaf. The only surprise is that you’d expect such a place would have a burger to rave about, but sorry to say, that’s not the case. The price range allows you to save cash, yet eat well on large sandwiches; otherwise, splurge on heftier meals and call it dinner. Also located at 2 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC, 202-842-2337; and 1100 New York Ave., Washington, DC, 202-628-2222. |
