The Capri

The Capri Restaurant Review:

An Eagle Rock and Occidental College hangout since 1963, The Capri received an overhaul in the most public and unforgiving way as a participant in the reality show “Kitchen Nightmares” with Gordon Ramsay. The small restaurant has been updated with a more contemporary look and the food is again worthy of a loyal neighborhood following. The nicely chilled Caesar salad (heavily scented with anchovies) is a good way to begin. Thin-crusted pizzas, usually overshadowed by those of neighborhood favorite Casa Bianca, are nonetheless satisfying, and one novel pie is the Cuban, with pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard crème fraîche that reflect the garlicky essence of a medianoche sandwich. Nearly all pastas --- everything from spaghetti and meatballs to manicotti to linguine with clam sauce --- are reliable. For dessert, consider sweet takes on a couple of usually savory dishes: a calzone with apple filling, and a pizza topped with chocolate, banana and marshmallow.
