New York native Rick Cardone’s eponymous deli features New York Mets memorabilia and some of the only authentic Italian sandwiches in the city, a combination that would play as well in Queens as it does in Silver Lake. A prominently displayed deli case is filled with Italian meats, cheeses and antipasti like artichoke heart salad with mint, olives and pine nuts. Five Families is a classic Italian sandwich with prosciutto, capicolla, sopressata, mortadella, Genoa salami and provolone. The deli also produces good hot sandwiches, filled with massive house-made meatballs or sausage and peppers, both slathered with a tomato sauce made from a Cardone family recipe. There’s even a classic caprese sandwich with an added bonus: thin-shaved prosciutto. For dessert, fresh cannolis are stuffed to order with chocolate-flecked ricotta cream.
