| In a city with a burgeoning barbecue scene, this veteran lives on, for better or worse. And while there is no dearth of good rib places in Chicago, few are more well-known than Carson's. The interior of its flagship on Wells Street will win no decorating awards --- heavy furniture, dark colors --- but the consistently decent, meaty baby-back ribs deliver what you expect. The secret, it seems, is the barbecue sauce, which locks onto those slabs, giving them a look of molten steel. Crunchy coleslaw and au gratin potatoes are fine accompaniments. Also located at 200 N.
