Carson's The Place for Ribs Restaurant Review: In a city with a burgeoning barbecue scene, this veteran lives on, for better or worse. And while there is no dearth of good rib places in Chicago, few are as well known as Carson's. The interior of its flagship on Wells Street will win no decorating awards --- heavy furniture, dark colors --- but the consistently decent, meaty baby-back ribs deliver what you expect. The secret, it seems, is the barbecue sauce, which locks onto those slabs, giving them a look of molten steel. Crunchy coleslaw and au gratin potatoes are fine accompaniments. A gluten-free menu is also available. Also located at 200 N. Waukegan Rd., Deerfield, 847-374-8500. Oh, and slabs can be shipped nationwide.
